One of the first assignments in my Graphic Communications curriculum at Clemson was
to come up with a design for a set of stickers and print them on a small flexographic press.
After a trip to Texas, armadillos were on my mind. Also, Red Stripe beer had a commercial
at the time with the tagline “hooray
beer!” Somehow, I saw the potential for a mashup of these two very unrelated things and so hooray
armadillo™ was born!
The design had a cult following among my classmates and turned into a running joke for the next four
years where I would somehow work it into every assignment. After college I adopted it as a logo
of sorts, altering the original design to the more modern aesthetic you see here.
